October 22, 2024

The Mass General Cancer Center at Cooley Dickinson Hospital was presented with a $60,000 donation from Bikes Fight Cancer, a western Massachusetts organization dedicated to raising funds for cancer research and patient care, during an appreciation lunch held at the hospital today.

A portion of the $60,000 donation will benefit the Mass General Brigham Cancer Care Fund at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, which provides essential support to cancer patients facing financial hardships as a result of their diagnosis. The remaining funds will support the Mass General Cancer Center Operations Fund, which supports critical services such as integrative therapies and nutrition services that are often not covered by insurance.

“Out-of-pocket costs and accompanying financial distress can create very real hardships for individuals diagnosed with cancer,” said Mass General Cancer Center at Cooley Dickinson Medical Oncologist Dr. Barrett Newsome. “This donation will help those members of our community who are struggling.”

On June 15, employees and healthcare providers from Cooley Dickinson Hospital participated in the Bikes Fight Cancer Charity Ride as ‘Team Cooley,’ successfully raising $8,700. This year’s event saw over 600 riders of various skill levels come together to ride and raise funds in the fight against cancer.

Bikes Fight Cancer donated $46,000 to the Mass General Cancer Center at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in 2023.

Additional organizations benefiting from the charity ride’s funding include the Cancer Connection and the Cancer House of Hope.
