My Philosophy
I believe that the most satisfied patients come from the most collaborative relationships with their doctors. I value direct communication, open conversations about goals and expectations, and an understanding of what is most important to each individual. Kindness, humor, and positivity are also important because having surgery can create anxiety and a feeling of lost control, and it’s always nice to see a friendly face when you’re nervous or uncomfortable. I pledge to be meticulous, completely truthful, value individuality, and to provide the same level of care I would provide to my own friends and family.
Biography
Dr. Hoffman, raised in Manhattan, came to the Pioneer Valley in 2007 by way of North Carolina, where he completed his Fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery at Duke University Medical Center with some of the most noted surgeons in the field. This fellowship followed graduating with honors from the University of Rochester, medical education at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine where he received his MD, two years of General Surgery training, and completion of his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the Maimonides Medical Center in New York.
After fellowship training, he stayed on in practice in the Raleigh-Durham area with both the Duke and Wake Forest health systems for several years before moving to Massachusetts to raise his daughter and be closer to family. Having spent much of his childhood in the Berkshires, Dr. Hoffman felt immediately at home in the setting and with the people of Western Massachusetts. As a surgeon he has a passion for surgical treatment of pain, injuries, and deformities. He is also passionate about shared decision making and collaboration with his patients in choosing a treatment path, which is often nonsurgical. As part of his subspecialty interest in Foot and Ankle Surgery, Dr. Hoffman was the first Orthopaedic Surgeon in Western Massachusetts to offer total ankle replacement. He also has training and experience in total hip replacement, total knee replacement, and partial knee replacement for patients who may not require complete replacement for knee arthritis. He also enjoys general Orthopaedic Surgery practice, including nonoperative and operative treatment of fractures and other injuries.
Dr. Hoffman is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a published member of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners, and a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society.
In addition to his practice, Dr. Hoffman loves spending time with his wife and daughter, hiking, skiing, travel, cooking and playing the bass guitar.
