Peter Everett, MD

Biography

I grew up in Eastchester, NY, about 30 minutes north of Yankee Stadium, and got my first real taste of New England during my college years at Williams. After a year teaching English in Japan, I returned to New York for medical school at NYU and went down to Washington DC for pediatric residency at Childrens National Medical Center. I met my wife, a medical social worker, during residency and we stayed on in DC and later Maryland as I joined a pediatric practice in nearby Rockville. While we loved DC, when our daughter was born, we knew we wanted to be closer to our families in New York and Boston. The Pioneer Valley seemed like the perfect fit-close to nature, but also with the bustle of a college town. I was fortunate that soon after I began looking for a job, Northampton Area Pediatrics had an opening, and so we moved up and I joined NAP in June of 2012.

I got the idea about going into medicine in high school. My uncle was an orthopedic surgeon in upstate New York, and after spending some time with him in high school, it amazed me how much of a difference he could make in people’s lives. My mother was a middle school science teacher, and she got me interested both in science, and in teaching. As a pediatrician, I get to spend time teaching (both families as well as medical students and residents), get to be involved with the science of medicine, and (on good days) get to help make a difference in some peoples’ lives.

My family currently lives in North Amherst, although I spend time at both of our offices. I enjoy getting outdoors for hiking, running or birding, and watching and playing all kinds of sports (I was a rower in college). I also love cooking, travelling, and music.
